Growth of Under Armour Clothing

The success of Under Armour is not causality. The former football player Kevin Plank conceived the idea in 1995 during his senior year at the University of Maryland, investing more than a year researching fabrics, producing samples, and making performance testing among his teammates, many of whom were playing in the National Football League at such time.

His efforts was rewarded when the concept for the products resulted in the first lightweight synthetic undershirt that does not retain water, starting the growth of the sweat wicking clothing industry in 1996 making Under Armour the leader in its field, with many other companies following its steps today.

Manufactured with polyester blend fabrics and special chemical treatments, sweat wicking clothing does not only retain water, but also the weight of the water and dries in minutes, which makes people feel like they are wearing a second skin, a sensation that does not compared with cotton clothing, the preferred fabric for underwear and all sports related apparel.

Reflected in numbers, the marks are unbeatable, Under Armor raised to the top of the industry and stock markets (NASDAQ: UARM), boasting more than 90% of the compression garment inside the Textile-Apparel Clothing Industry among the public companies trading on the NYSE, AMEX, and NASDAQ, with a revenue of $ 205.2 millions of US Dollars, a gross profit of $95.4 millions with an operating income of $25.4 millions for a total net income of $16.3 millions, excepting share amounts by 2004 Fiscal Year-End.

Under Armour is far ahead from its top competitors, Cotton Inc, with annual sales of $62.0 millions, Nike with $13,739.7 millions and Reebok with only $3,758.3 millions of US dollars during the same period, confirming the indubitable leadership of Under Armour as a manufacturer of sweat wicking clothing including apparel and accessories for diverse sports, climates, and settings, sweats, batting gloves, loose-fitting shirts, boxers, sport bars, etc.
